Getting Your First Space Moss

Space moss does not appear on its own — you get it from meteor impacts. After a meteor shower, collect space moss blocks, carpets, and grass from around the craters. Once you have a starter block, you can begin farming it instead of waiting for the next event.

Making It Spread

Place your space moss blocks on solid ground in the area you want to convert. Like other spreading ground cover in Minecraft, it expands to adjacent valid surfaces over time, so give it room and a flat-ish surface to work with. Space moss carpet and space moss grass are the decorative variants — use carpet for thin floor coverage and grass for the taller growth. If you want a controlled patch, ring the moss with a block it cannot spread onto so it stays where you put it. Keep an eye out for space moss bugs, which are tied to the moss and can appear around it; clear them if they become a nuisance near your base. Harvest with the appropriate tool so you get the block back rather than destroying it, and keep a reserve block in a chest so you can restart the patch if something goes wrong.
