Understanding New Reactor Materials
IC2 Additions introduces Neptunium,
Thorium, and Californium as advanced reactor fuels alongside classic Sunarium. These materials generate more EU per tick than standard uranium, allowing smaller, more efficient reactors.
Setting Up Your Reactor
1. Build a nuclear reactor chamber with proper cooling—use cooling cells or water to prevent meltdown
2. Insert fuel rods containing your chosen material into the reactor slots
3. Monitor heat levels; if heat exceeds safe limits, the reactor will explode
4. Connect the reactor output to your energy storage network via appropriate cables
5. Use a reactor planner tool (external) to design safe, efficient fuel rod layouts
Fuel Selection
Neptunium and Thorium provide balanced output and heat generation. Californium generates extreme power but produces dangerous heat—only use with advanced cooling systems. Sunarium offers reliable, steady generation for stable bases. High-capacity energy crystals can be used in some reactor designs for extended operation between refueling cycles.
