Hardcore Wither Mod — Guide
Wither Experience & Scaling
The core mechanic of the mod is the Wither Experience system. This system ensures that the fight remains challenging regardless of how many times you have faced the boss.
Scaling Mechanics
- Individual Experience: The mod tracks how many Wither spawns and kills each player has participated in.
- Group Scaling: When a Wither is spawned, the mod checks for all players in the vicinity. It combines their total Wither Experience to calculate the boss's level. This prevents high-level players from easily carrying new players through the fight without a challenge.
- Offline/Automated Scaling: If a Wither is spawned and no players are nearby (such as in an automated farm), the mod defaults to a difficulty slightly higher than the last Wither spawned in that world. This is specifically designed to disrupt simple automation machines.
- First Encounter: The first Wither a player faces will typically be identical to the Vanilla Wither, allowing for a standard progression start.
Evolving Abilities
Rather than just increasing health and damage, the Hardcore Wither gains unique abilities as its level increases. Many of these are intended to be discovered through combat, but the following are known traits:
| Ability | Description |
|---|---|
| Boosted Health | The Wither's maximum HP increases significantly with each level. |
| Teleportation | The Wither can instantly blink to new locations to avoid being trapped or to close the distance on a player. |
| Minion Summoning | The Wither can summon reinforcements during the fight. While early versions were known to summon pigs (later patched to be less frequent), higher levels summon more dangerous mobs like Blazes or Ghasts. |
| Charging Fix | In version 1.8.9, the mod fixes a vanilla bug where the Wither could move and attack while still in its initial invulnerable charging phase. |
Rewards & Drops
To make the harder fights worthwhile, the mod introduces several improvements to the Wither's loot table.
Nether Star Looting
In vanilla Minecraft, the Looting enchantment does not affect the number of Nether Stars dropped. Hardcore Wither changes this, allowing the Looting enchantment to increase the drop count at a configurable rate. This makes high-level Wither hunting the most efficient way to gather stars for beacons.
Tinkers' Construct Integration
If the Tinkers' Construct mod is installed, the Hardcore Wither provides a new way to obtain Green Heart Canisters. * Drop Condition: These canisters have a chance to drop from the Wither once it reaches a certain difficulty threshold. * Purpose: Green Heart Canisters are essential for reaching the maximum possible health in Tinkers' Construct, usually requiring an Ender Dragon kill; this mod provides an alternative end-game path for them.
