Gently Holds Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Why can't I pick up the mob even though I'm crouching and right clicking?
Make sure both your hands are completely empty—if you're holding anything, even in your offhand, the pickup won't work. Also check that the mob isn't too large; if it exceeds your configured max_width or max_height settings, you won't be able to grab it.
How do I get the mob back out of my inventory?
Right-click on the ground while holding the mob item to place it back into the world, or drag it to your helmet slot to wear it as a hat instead.
Can I pick up monsters or only animals?
That depends on your entity_restriction setting—by default it's usually set to pick up only passive animals, but you can configure it to allow monsters, or use the entity_whitelist and entity_blacklist to control exactly which mobs you can grab.
What happens if I drop a mob item from my inventory?
If spawn_drop is enabled in your config, the mob will be released back into the world where you dropped it; if it's disabled, the item will just drop like a normal item.
Can I wear any mob as a hat or only small ones?
Only mobs within your configured max_width and max_height limits can be worn as hats, and the can_wear_hat setting must be enabled; larger mobs will stay in your inventory but won't fit in the helmet slot.
Does this mod work with modded mobs or only vanilla animals?
It can work with modded mobs depending on how they're coded, but you may need to add them to your entity_whitelist in the config if they don't fall under your entity_restriction category.
Do the mobs take damage or die while I'm carrying them?
Mobs are protected while held as items and won't take damage or die from being in your inventory.
Can I use this to transport mobs through portals?
Yes, you can carry mobs through portals as items, making it easy to move animals between dimensions without losing them.
Does wearing a mob as a hat affect my vision or gameplay?
The mob sits on your head as a cosmetic hat and doesn't block your view or interfere with your ability to play normally.
What's the animated setting and should I turn it on or off?
When enabled, the animated setting makes the 3D mob models inside your inventory move and animate; disable it if you want static icons or if you're experiencing performance issues.
