Extended Mushrooms Mod — Guide

Mushroom Growth Mechanics

The mod significantly alters how mushrooms interact with the world, making them behave more like trees while retaining their fungal nature.

Huge Mushrooms

In this mod, small mushrooms have a 1:25 chance to grow into Huge Mushrooms on a random tick, similar to saplings. However, they have specific soil requirements: * Mycelium & Podzol: Mushrooms can grow at any light level. * Dirt & Grass Blocks: Mushrooms can only grow if the light level is below 13.

Mega Mushrooms

By placing four mushrooms of the same type in a 2x2 square, players can grow a Mega Mushroom. These are massive structures that provide significantly more resources than standard Huge Mushrooms. Most mushroom types in the mod, including vanilla Red and Brown mushrooms, support this growth stage.

New Mushroom Variants

Extended Mushrooms adds several new species of fungi, each found naturally in the world or crafted via the Fairy Ring.

Mushroom Type Color Primary Drops Special Property
Glowshroom Blue Glowstone Crumbs Emits light (Level 8); Cap blocks release night vision clouds in the dark.
Honey Fungus Orange Honey Blobs, Honeycomb Shreds Sticky texture; used for honey-related crafting.
Poisonous Mushroom Purple/Green Poisonous Mushroom Inflicts Poison on contact; used for brewing and tipped arrows.
Slime Fungus Lime Slime Blobs Bouncy properties; drops can be used as slimeball substitutes.

The Fairy Ring

The Fairy Ring is a unique crafting mechanic introduced by the mod. It is created by placing 8 mushrooms in a circular pattern on the ground.

  • Function: It acts as a specialized crafting station for advanced mushroom items like Honey Fungus and Slime Fungus.
  • Nether Compatibility: In later versions, the Fairy Ring can also be constructed using Nether fungi (Warped and Crimson), allowing for cross-dimensional fungal crafting.

World Generation & Foliage

Mushroom biomes are further detailed with new decorative foliage: * Infested Grass: A brown-tinted grass that grows exclusively on Mycelium. * Infested Flower: A brown flower found in mushroom biomes. It can be crafted into Brown Dye. When used in a Suspicious Stew, it grants the Slowness effect for 9 seconds.

Mobs: The Baashroom

The Baashroom is a mushroom-themed variant of the Sheep. These creatures naturally spawn in Mushroom Field biomes and come in variants corresponding to the different mushroom types.

  • Behavior: Baashrooms eat Mycelium instead of Grass.
  • Color Changing: Unlike regular sheep, they cannot be dyed. Instead, feeding them a specific mushroom will change their type and color.
  • Shearing: Shearing a Baashroom yields mushroom caps instead of wool.
  • Breeding: They can be bred using mushrooms.

Mushroom Wood & Building Blocks

Huge Mushroom Stems now function as a legitimate wood source. These stems can be harvested and processed into a full suite of wooden building blocks.

Wood Variants

All mushroom types (Red, Brown, Glowshroom, etc.) provide their own unique wood set, including: * Planks, Slabs, and Stairs * Fences and Fence Gates * Doors and Trapdoors * Buttons and Pressure Plates * Signs and Hanging Signs * Boats and Chest Boats

Mushroom Blocks as Wool

Red and Brown Mushroom Cap blocks are functionally equivalent to Wool in this mod. They can be used to craft beds, carpets, and other wool-based items, providing a survival alternative in mushroom-heavy biomes.

Items & Food

The mod adds several utility items and food sources derived from fungi.

Food Items

  • Grilled Mushroom: Created by cooking any edible mushroom in a furnace, smoker, or campfire. Restores 2 hunger and 0.3 saturation.
  • Mushroom Bread: Crafted using 3 edible mushrooms (similar to the wheat bread recipe). Restores 5 hunger and 0.3 saturation.

Utility Items

  • Mushroom Spores: Crafted from any mushroom. Right-clicking Dirt turns it into Mycelium; right-clicking a Cow transforms it into a Mooshroom.
  • Glowstone Crumbs: Dropped by Glowshroom caps. 4 Crumbs can be crafted into 1 Glowstone Dust.
  • Honey Blobs & Slime Blobs: Dropped by their respective fungi; these serve as renewable alternatives to Honey Bottles and Slimeballs.
