Activating Your Shield
Shields now activate when you sneak (press and hold the crouch key). You can still attack while shield-sneaking, allowing you to block and counterattack simultaneously. Shields activate instantly with no delay, giving you immediate protection.
Understanding Shield Protection
Shields block up to 5 melee damage per hit and 100% of projectile damage. If your shield has a banner, it blocks up to 10 melee damage instead. Shields also provide 50% knockback resistance while active and offer full protection against explosion damage.
Dealing with Axes
Axes are the shield's counter. When hit by an axe, your shield becomes disabled for a default duration (varies by weapon). Axes with the Cleaving enchantment disable shields for even longer and deal extra damage. Plan your positioning carefully when facing axe users.
Shield Arc and Positioning
Your shield only protects in a 100-degree arc in front of you. Attacks from the sides or behind bypass your shield entirely. Always face your opponent and maintain awareness of flanking threats.
