Use Axes Effectively as a Weapon

Axes and Durability

Axes now consume 1 durability per attack instead of only when blocking. This means axes wear down faster than other weapons, so plan your durability management carefully. Repair them regularly or carry backups for extended combat.

Cleaving Enchantment

Axes receive the Cleaving enchantment from enchantment tables instead of Sharpness. Cleaving increases the duration that shields remain disabled after being hit, and adds extra damage to your strikes. This makes axes the premier anti-shield weapon.

Attack Speed and Reach

Axes have their own attack speed values distinct from swords. Experiment with different axes to find the speed that matches your playstyle. Charged attacks still grant bonus reach, making axes effective for both close and medium-range combat.

Strategic Use

Use axes when you expect to face shielded opponents. Their shield-disabling properties make them invaluable in group combat or when fighting defensive players. However, remember the durability cost and plan accordingly.
