Better Magnets Mod 1.12.2, — Guide
Magnet Tiers
There are five distinct tiers of magnets available. Each tier increases the effective radius of the suction effect. By default, the radii are as follows:
| Tier | Name | Default Radius | Primary Material |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tier 1 Magnet | 2 Blocks | Iron |
| 2 | Tier 2 Magnet | 4 Blocks | Gold |
| 3 | Tier 3 Magnet | 6 Blocks | Diamond |
| 4 | Tier 4 Magnet | 8 Blocks | Emerald |
| 5 | Ultimate Magnet | 14 Blocks | Nether Star |
Suction Mechanics
- Instant Pickup: Items do not travel through the air; they are instantly added to your inventory.
- Obstruction Bypass: Suction works through solid walls and across lava/water without the risk of item destruction.
- XP Collection: All magnets automatically attract experience orbs in addition to items.
- Baubles Integration: Magnets can be equipped in Bauble slots to save space in the main inventory hotbar.
Anti-Magnet Mechanics
To balance the power of the magnets and prevent them from interfering with automated systems, the mod includes two specialized anti-magnet features.
Anti Magnet Block
The Anti Magnet Block is a utility block designed for automation safety. When placed, it creates a vertical "dead zone" that prevents magnets from functioning within its area of effect.
- Range: Prevents item suction 5 blocks directly above and 5 blocks directly below the block.
- Performance: This is not a tile entity, meaning players can place hundreds of these blocks in a small area without impacting server performance or causing FPS lag.
- Limitation: It only stops item suction; it does not prevent the collection of XP orbs.
Anti Magnet Item
The Anti Magnet Item is a unique counter-measure tool, often used in multiplayer environments or to quickly clear magnet effects.
- Function: If this item enters a player's inventory, it immediately forces all active magnets in that inventory to the OFF state.
- Usage: It does not just temporarily suppress the magnet; it actually toggles the magnet's setting to disabled. The player must manually turn their magnet back on to resume collection.
- Strategy: You can throw this item toward a player with an active magnet. Their magnet will suck the item up, which in turn disables their magnet instantly.
