Backpacks Mod — Guide

Resources

The crafting of backpacks relies on two primary intermediate resources:

Bound Leather

An essential component for crafting Tanned Leather, which is used in upgrading backpacks. It is crafted from regular leather.

Tanned Leather

Produced by smelting Bound Leather in a furnace. Tanned Leather is crucial for upgrading standard Backpacks into Big Backpacks.

Mechanics

The Backpacks Mod introduces several mechanics for interacting with backpacks:

  • Opening Inventory: To access a backpack's inventory, hold it in your hand and right-click.
  • Equipping and Access: Backpacks can be placed in a dedicated backpack slot, often accessed by pressing Shift + B (default keybind). Once equipped, the backpack will be visible on the player's back and can be opened quickly by pressing the B key (default keybind). Keybinds can be customized in the game's controls.
  • Item Transfer: Players can transfer items directly from an equipped backpack into a nearby chest by performing a Shift + Right-click action on the chest.
  • Auto-Pickup: Backpacks can be configured to automatically pick up up to nine specific item drops, streamlining collection.
  • Renaming: Backpacks can be renamed by performing a Sneak + Right-click action while holding the backpack. A GUI will appear, allowing the player to enter a new name.
  • Placing on Ground: Backpacks can be placed on the ground as a block by performing a Sneak + Use action on a block.
  • Death Consequences: In some versions of the mod, an equipped backpack may be destroyed upon the player's death.
  • Crafted Requirement: Backpacks must be legitimately crafted to function correctly. Backpacks spawned or cheated into the inventory without going through the crafting process may not open or determine their inventory size, leading to issues.
