Take Better Screenshots in Grayscale
Compose Your Shot
Grayscale removes color distraction, making composition and lighting the focus of your screenshots. Position your camera to emphasize shadow and light contrast—this is where grayscale shines. Avoid cluttered scenes; clean lines and clear depth work best without color to guide the eye.
Optimize Lighting for Contrast
Since the shader preserves vanilla lighting, use torches, lanterns, and natural light strategically. Place light sources to create dramatic shadows and highlights that stand out in black and white. Underground builds benefit greatly—the contrast between lit and unlit areas becomes the visual anchor.
Frame Architectural Details
Grayscale excels at showcasing block textures and building geometry. Frame shots to highlight:
- Repeating patterns in walls and floors
- Depth created by stairs and overhangs
- Silhouettes against bright skies
These elements carry visual weight without color. Avoid large flat surfaces of the same block type—they flatten in grayscale. Instead, mix textures to maintain visual interest.
Disable Distracting Elements
Turn off the HUD and any colored mods temporarily. Disable particles if they distract from your subject. The cleaner your scene, the more impact the grayscale aesthetic delivers.
