Optimize Shadow Quality for Better Performance

Locate Shadow Settings

Access the shader configuration menu and find the shadow quality section. This typically includes options for shadow distance, softness, and resolution.

Reduce Shadow Draw Distance

Lower the shadow render distance to decrease the area around your character where shadows are calculated. This significantly improves performance while maintaining visible shadows nearby. Distant terrain and structures will appear less shadowed, but close-range shadows remain smooth and detailed.

Adjust Shadow Softness

Decrease shadow softness if you need better performance. Softer shadows require more processing, while harder shadows render faster. Find the balance between visual quality and frame rate that works for your system.

Disable Shadows Selectively

If performance remains poor, consider disabling shadows on specific elements like foliage or smaller structures while keeping them on terrain and large builds. This preserves visual impact where it matters most.

Monitor Frame Rate

Use the F3 debug screen to watch your FPS while adjusting settings. Make one change at a time and observe the impact before moving to the next adjustment.
