Optimize Performance While Using Expofog
Reduce Conflicting Visual Effects
Disable or lower other shader features that compete with fog rendering. Turn off volumetric lighting, god rays, or heavy shadow effects if your frame rate drops. Expofog works best when it's the primary visual enhancement.
Adjust View Distance Carefully
While Expofog replaces standard fog, your render distance still affects performance. Reduce render distance slightly if you experience frame drops—the fog will naturally obscure distant terrain anyway, so you won't lose much visual clarity.
Balance Quality Settings
Lower the fog resolution or sample count if available in your shader settings. This reduces the computational load without drastically changing appearance. Check for "fog quality" or "fog samples" options.
Monitor and Test
Fly through varied terrain—mountains, valleys, and open plains—while watching your frame counter. If performance remains smooth, you've found a good balance. If stuttering occurs, reduce fog density or view distance incrementally until stability returns. Most systems handle Expofog well, but older hardware may need conservative settings.
