MAtmos's core mechanic revolves around its ability to dynamically generate
ambient sounds based on the player's environment. The mod actively scans the player's location and surrounding blocks to determine the appropriate soundscape.
Key environmental detections include:
- Biome:
Sounds adapt to the current biome, such as forests, deserts, or swamps - Indoor/Outdoor Status: The mod differentiates between being outdoors, inside a structure, or deep within a cave, playing distinct audio cues for each
- Proximity to Features:
Sounds are triggered based on proximity to elements like water, cliffs, or dense foliage
The mod also incorporates interaction
sounds, enhancing actions like drinking potions or handling items.
Configuration
Players can customize their audio experience through an in-game settings menu. This menu is typically accessed by pressing the F4 key, though some versions may use F7.
Within the settings menu, users can:
* Adjust the volume levels of individual sound groups, referred to as 'Expansions'. For example, the volume of weapon interaction
sounds (interactions_weapons.xml) can be tuned down or muted entirely.
* Combine different expansions from various soundpacks, allowing for a highly personalized audio environment.
* Quickly change the global volume by holding down F7 and looking up or down (in versions where F7 is the menu key).
* Disable MAtmos entirely in-game or set it to start disabled.
