Kingdomcome Combat FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using directional attacks?
Equip any weapon and look at the directional indicators that appear when you aim at an enemy. Click in the direction you want to attack (overhead, left, right, or thrust) instead of just clicking to swing. Each direction consumes stamina and deals different damage based on your weapon type.
What's the difference between slash, strike, and thrust?
Slash is used by swords and axes for cutting damage, Strike is used by hammers and maces for blunt impact, and Thrust is used by pickaxes and swords for piercing damage. Different armor types resist these differently—plate armor blocks slashes well but is weaker to thrusts.
How do I recover stamina during combat?
Stop attacking and stand still to regenerate stamina naturally. Blocking also costs stamina but lets you recover slightly while defending. If you run out of stamina, you cannot attack or block until it refills, so managing it is crucial in longer duels.
How do I learn new combos?
Find and read skill books scattered throughout the world or in loot chests. Each book teaches you weapon-specific combos and passive abilities that unlock new attack sequences and stat bonuses when equipped.
Why am I so slow in heavy armor?
Heavy plate armor provides excellent protection against slashes but significantly reduces your movement speed and stamina regeneration. Use lighter armor if you need mobility, or accept the trade-off for better defense in prolonged fights.
How do I read enemy attacks and block them?
Watch the enemy's directional indicators and weapon positioning to predict their attack direction. Hold block and face the incoming attack to reduce damage. Blocking at the right moment can create openings for your counterattacks.
Can I customize damage numbers and mob behavior?
Yes, the mod includes data pack customization options that let you adjust damage values, stamina costs, and how humanoid mobs behave in combat. Check the mod's configuration files or data pack folder for these settings.
Do humanoid mobs use the same combat system as players?
Yes, mobs like zombies and skeletons now block, dodge, and attack directionally just like players do. They read your movements and react tactically, making close-quarters combat much more challenging and dynamic.
What happens when armor gets damaged?
Damaged armor shows visual cracks and worn details on your character model. The protection value decreases as armor takes damage, so you'll need to repair it to maintain full defense. Armor degrades differently depending on the damage type it receives.
Why can't I attack as fast as before?
The mod replaces rapid clicking with directional, stamina-based combat that requires you to choose attack directions carefully. This is intentional—the system rewards tactical thinking over button-mashing, so combat feels slower but more strategic.
