Understand What Varies Between Species

Each vanilla wood type keeps its own base color under Realistic Woods, but the pack layers grain direction, knot placement, and subtle tone shifts on top. This means oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, and dark oak still read as distinct species — they just look less flat. Use that distinction deliberately: pick species by *tone* first, then by *grain character*.

Build a Palette Before You Build

Place one block of each wood type side by side in a test area and screenshot it. Compare how the grains flow — some species have strong vertical streaks, others have softer, more diffuse patterns. Group species that share a grain direction for structural elements like beams, and use contrasting grain for accent trim.

Apply It to Common Builds

For a cottage, use a soft-grained species for walls and a stronger-grained one for roof trim. For a ship or dock, use vertical-grain species for hull planks and horizontal-grain for decking. For interiors, stripped logs make excellent ceiling beams because the grain runs cleanly along the length. Because the pack is texture-only, you can swap species freely at any time — just break and replace the block, no recipe changes involved.
