Changing Your Base Armor Piece

The Smithing Template Viewer lets you see how a trim pattern looks on any armor type before crafting. This is useful when you're unsure whether a trim suits leather, chainmail, iron, diamond, or netherite gear.

Steps

1. Open JEI or EMI and search for any smithing template (like Spire, Dune, or Eye)

2. Click on the template to open its preview interface

3. Look for the armor piece selector on the preview screen

4. Click through the available armor types to cycle between different base pieces

5. Watch how the trim pattern adapts to each gear style

Why This Matters

Different armor materials have different surface textures and shapes. A trim that looks great on leather might look completely different on diamond armor. Testing all options before gathering materials saves time and helps you make confident crafting decisions.

You can test as many combinations as you want without using any actual resources.
