Wear the 
Ancient Helmet
The Ancient Helmet is the mod's wearable armor piece. Craft it using the crafting_shapeless recipe shown in the 
LivingThings Lexicon, then equip it in your helmet slot. It is the only armor item in the registry, so it is your single defensive upgrade from this mod.
Collect Creature Drops
Two creatures give you materials rather than just meat:
Crab Shell — dropped by crabs. Spawn one with a 
Crab Spawn Egg if you cannot find one naturally.
Shark Tooth — dropped by sharks. Spawn one with a 
Shark Spawn Egg.
Store both in a dedicated chest. They are the mod's non-food materials and you will want them on hand when a lexicon entry calls for them.
Handle the Special Spawns
Some spawn eggs summon tougher or unusual creatures: 
Ancient Blaze Spawn Egg, 
Baby Enderdragon Spawn Egg, and 
Nether Knight Spawn Egg. Bring armor and a strong weapon before you place these, and fight them in open ground where you can retreat. The Ancient Helmet helps here.
Other Useful Items
Seahorse Bucket — captures a seahorse for transport.
Banana — a plant item you can collect and store.
Ostrich Nest — place it to hatch an 
Ostrich Egg.
Order of Operations
1. Craft the LivingThings Lexicon.
2. Craft and equip the Ancient Helmet.
3. Hunt crabs and sharks for Crab Shell and Shark Tooth.
4. Only then attempt the Ancient Blaze, Baby Enderdragon, and Nether Knight spawns.
