How They Behave

A redstone torch placed on the ceiling acts like a redstone torch attached to that same block. It powers the block it is attached to and sends a signal to adjacent redstone components, just like a wall-mounted redstone torch. This means you can build inverted signals, power lines, and logic gates entirely overhead.

Building an Overhead Circuit

1. Place a solid block where you want the circuit to run, then attach a redstone torch to its underside.

2. Run redstone dust, repeaters, or other components along the ceiling or down the walls to reach your target.

3. Remember the torch inverts: it is on by default and turns off when the block it is attached to receives power. Use this to build NOT gates or to cut power when a lever is flipped.

Practical Uses

  • Hide redstone lines above a room so the floor stays clean.
  • Power pistons or lamps from the ceiling without running dust across the floor.
  • Combine with ceiling normal torches for a lit room that also hides its wiring. Keep in mind redstone torches give off dim light, so pair them with regular torches if you need full brightness.
