Where Artifacts Come From
Artifacts are loot, not crafts. To build a collection, focus on:
- Structures — dungeons, mineshafts, temples, strongholds, woodland mansions, and any mod-added structures.
- Mimics — open suspicious chests carefully; a Mimic will fight you and drop an artifact on death.
- Campsites if your version adds them.
Common Mistakes
- Searching for a crafting recipe. There is no general crafting recipe for artifacts. If a guide claims one, it is probably for a different mod.
- Skipping structures you have already looted. Loot tables are per-chest, so a second dungeon is still worth clearing.
- Ignoring the Mimic tell. If a chest looks slightly off or sits in an odd spot, expect a fight and have your weapon ready.
- Assuming all versions are identical. Bedrock, Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds can differ in which artifacts and mechanics exist. Check your in-game guide or the wiki page for your version.
Building a Collection
Run structure routes repeatedly, trade duplicates with other players, and store spares in an ender chest. Because artifacts are not consumed like normal items, once you own one you keep it — the challenge is finding each new one, not maintaining it.
