Get the base materials

You need a Netherite Ingot and a Diamond to begin the Netherite-Diamond line. Netherite Ingots come from the vanilla smithing process; Diamonds come from mining or loot. Both are consumed when you make the upgraded ingot.

Use the smithing table

Place a smithing table and open it. The Netherite-Diamond Ingot is produced through a smithing_transform recipe, so you combine the Netherite Ingot with a Diamond in the smithing interface. The result is a single Netherite-Diamond Ingot.

Repeat for other tiers

Netherite-Emerald Ingot, Netherite-Gold Ingot, and Netherite-Iron Ingot follow the same pattern: a Netherite Ingot plus the matching vanilla material (Emerald, Gold Ingot, or Iron Ingot) in the smithing table. Each transform yields one upgraded ingot.

Store and stockpile

Craft the ingots in batches before you start gear. Every piece of Netherite-Diamond armor, every tool, and the Block of Netherite-Diamond all consume these ingots, so a full set plus a block adds up quickly. Keep a chest of Netherite Ingots and the four vanilla materials near your smithing table so you can convert on demand instead of running back to storage mid-project.
