Understanding Block Variants

Families and Styles

Chipped organises its decorative blocks into families. A family shares a base material — acacia planks, amethyst blocks, oak bookshelves — and offers many stylistic treatments of it. Common treatments include mosaics, panels, shavings, pillars with matching pillar tops, scales, mini tiles, and bricks. Wood families also extend to barrels, crates, trapdoors, and torches, so you can keep a consistent look across an entire structure.

Some families cross over into other mods' materials, such as froglight variants, which means the mod can decorate blocks you already have from elsewhere.

When building, treat a family as a palette rather than a single block. Mixing a mosaic floor with a pillar wall and a scaled accent from the same base material gives depth without introducing clashing colours. The Airy trapdoor set shows the same idea applied to a single block type across every wood. Use the Alchemy Book to see which variants you have already discovered.
