How to Survive Your First Night With Zombie Awareness Installed

Expect More Than Vanilla

This mod makes zombies notice you from farther away, hear you through walls, and gather into groups. A dirt box with a torch is not enough on its own. Plan for noise and light discipline from the start.

First-Night Checklist

  • Dig in rather than build up. A small underground room with a single entrance is easier to defend than an exposed surface hut.
  • Keep the entrance sealed with a real door or a block you can place quickly. Zombies can break through weak barriers given time.
  • Minimize noise near your shelter. Mining, chopping, and fighting all generate sound that attracts attention.
  • Do not leave torches visible outside your door. Light helps you see, but a lit doorway is a beacon.
  • Have a fallback: a second exit or a spot you can retreat to if something gets in.
  • Keep food and a weapon on you.

Morning Routine

At sunrise, do not immediately sprint outside. Listen first, then open up and clear any zombies lingering nearby before you start your day. Stragglers from the night can still be close.
