How to Identify Blocks and Their Mod Source with Wawla
Why identify blocks
In modded worlds you often run into a block you do not recognize. Wawla's block readout tells you the block's display name and, when enabled, its registry/mod ID, so you can tell which mod it came from and search for it later.
Steps
1. Aim your crosshair at the block. The overlay appears with the block name on top.
2. Read the mod ID line (enable it in the Wawla config under the blocks category if it is off). The ID tells you the source mod, which is what you need to look up recipes or uses.
3. For
blocks that have extra stats, additional lines such as hardness or blast resistance may appear — useful when deciding whether a block is worth mining or using as a wall.
Practical uses
- Sorting a modpack base. Walk your storage room and identify unknown
decorative blocks so you can label chests correctly. - Finding the right tool. Hardness and resistance lines help you judge whether a block needs a stronger pickaxe.
- Debugging builds. If a block is not behaving as expected, the mod ID tells you which mod's mechanics apply to it.
If nothing shows
Make sure you are looking at an actual block and not through a
transparent one, and confirm the
blocks category is enabled in the config. Fields you disabled will simply not render.
