Stop Specific Mobs from Spawning

Identify the Mob

First, determine the exact namespace ID of the mob you want to block. Most vanilla mobs follow the format minecraft:mobname. For modded mobs, use the mod's namespace instead (for example, modname:custom_mob).

Edit the Mob Blocking List

Open your mod's configuration file and locate the ["Mob Blocking Settings"] section. Find the blockedMobs list. Each entry can include a spawn limit number after the mob ID (e.g., "minecraft:zombie 40" allows up to 40 zombies), or no number to block the mob entirely.

Add or Modify Your Entry

Add your mob to the list in the format "namespace:mobname limit" or "namespace:mobname" to disable spawning completely. For example:

  • "minecraft:creeper 5" — allows only 5 creepers
  • "minecraft:phantom" — blocks all phantom spawns

Apply Changes

Save the configuration file and restart your game or reload the mod. The changes take effect immediately on your next session. Mobs already spawned in the world will remain until they despawn naturally.
