Universal Optimization Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using this mod?
The mod works automatically once installed with default settings that disable mob collisions and enable recipe caching. Open your config file to customize spawn limits, mob blocking, and movement features to match your playstyle and hardware.
Why am I still getting lag spikes when exploring?
Make sure chunk caching is enabled in your config and that your `allMobsLimit` is set to a reasonable value for your system (default is 700). If you're still experiencing freezes, lower the mob cap further or enable the AI distance limiter to freeze distant mob behavior.
What does 'disabling mob collisions' actually do?
When enabled, mobs pass through each other instead of pushing around, which stops the game from calculating collision physics between every mob in a group. This significantly reduces CPU load, especially in areas with many spawned creatures.
Can I stop only certain mobs from spawning?
Yes, use the `blockedMobs` list in the Mob Blocking Settings section of your config file and add the mob's namespace ID with a spawn limit number (for example, `minecraft:zombie 40` allows up to 40 zombies). Mobs without a number listed are blocked entirely.
How do I prevent boss mobs like the Wither from being affected by optimization?
Boss mobs are automatically excluded from most optimization features by default. Check the `mobBlockingYIgnoredMobs` and `mobBlockingXIgnoredMobs` lists in your config—bosses like the Wither and Ender Dragon are already listed there.
What's the difference between the bunnyhop and airhop features?
Bunnyhop is a continuous movement boost that activates while sprinting and jumping, controlled by speed multipliers in the config. Airhop automatically performs hops in mid-air with a configurable delay between each hop, useful for rapid vertical or horizontal travel.
Why do my crafting menus still freeze sometimes?
Make sure `enableRecipeCache` is set to `true` in your config file. If freezes persist, your recipe cache file may be corrupted—try deleting the cache folder and letting the mod rebuild it on your next game launch.
Is there a performance difference between lowering mob cap vs. using AI distance limits?
Lowering `allMobsLimit` prevents mobs from spawning entirely, saving more resources overall. The AI distance limiter (`mobBlockingAiLod`) keeps mobs spawned but freezes their behavior at distance, which is better if you want mobs to exist but not process actions far away.
Can I use this mod with other optimization mods?
Yes, but avoid running multiple mods that both disable mob collisions or control spawning, as they may conflict. Test your modpack and watch for duplicate features that could cause unexpected behavior.
How do I know if the mod is actually working?
Compare your FPS before and after enabling features, or use the provided screenshots as a reference for performance differences. You can also temporarily disable features in the config to see which ones have the biggest impact on your specific system.
