How do I catch a mob with the 
Lasso?
Right-click on any mob while holding a Lasso to capture it. The mob will be stored in the Lasso, which you can then place into a Mob Farm block to start generating loot.

Higher tier Mob Farms generate loot faster than lower tiers. Wooden is the slowest, Stone is faster, and each tier above produces loot at an increased rate.
Do I need a chest to collect loot from my farm?
No, but it's highly recommended. Place a chest directly under your Mob Farm and loot will automatically drop into it; without a chest, drops will fall on the ground.
Can I turn off a Mob Farm without breaking it?
Yes, apply a Redstone signal to the farm to disable it. Remove the signal to turn it back on.
What mobs can I put in a Mob Farm?
You can capture most mobs with a Lasso, and each will produce its corresponding loot (creepers drop gunpowder, skeletons drop bones, etc.). Some special mobs may have restrictions depending on the mod version.

Yes, break the farm block and it will drop as an item you can place elsewhere. The captured mob inside will remain stored.
Does the farm need light to work?
No, Mob Farms generate loot regardless of light level, so you can build them anywhere including underground or in dark rooms.
Can multiple chests collect from one farm?
Place a single chest directly under the farm for automatic collection. If you want to expand storage, use hoppers or item pipes to route drops to multiple chests.
What happens if I put the wrong mob in a farm?
Break the farm block to retrieve the Lasso with the mob inside, then capture a different mob and place it in a new farm.
