Tiered Backpacks FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I craft my first backpack?
Gather the base materials (typically leather and wood or similar tier-1 components) and craft the basic backpack at a crafting table. Check the crafting recipe in your inventory or JEI/NEI for exact ingredients, as recipes can be customized per modpack.
What's the difference between backpack tiers?
Each tier holds more storage slots than the last, but requires progressively more advanced materials to craft. Higher tiers may also have different textures or durability properties depending on your modpack's configuration.
How do I upgrade to a better backpack?
Craft a higher-tier backpack using the upgraded materials, then place your old backpack and new backpack together in a crafting grid or upgrade interface (varies by modpack). Your items will transfer to the new backpack.
Can I carry multiple backpacks at once?
Yes—you can have several backpacks in your inventory and switch between them, or equip them in different slots. Each backpack stores items independently, letting you organize by category.
Do backpacks work in other dimensions?
Backpacks function the same way in all dimensions (Nether, End, custom dimensions). Your items stay inside the backpack regardless of where you travel.
What happens if I die with a backpack?
Your backpack drops as an item on death, just like any other inventory item. Pick it up to recover all stored contents, or it will despawn after the normal item despawn timer.
Can I use backpacks with other storage mods?
Yes, Tiered Backpacks is designed to work alongside other inventory and storage mods without conflicts. You can use both backpacks and other mod storage solutions together.
How much does a backpack weigh or slow me down?
Backpacks themselves don't add weight or movement penalties in the base mod. The only limit is your inventory space and the backpack's internal slot capacity.
Can I customize backpack recipes or sizes in my modpack?
Yes—most modpacks allow you to edit the mod's config files to adjust recipes, slot counts, and material requirements. Check your modpack's config folder or documentation for backpack settings.
Why can't I open my backpack?
Make sure you're holding or have the backpack in your inventory, then right-click it to open the GUI. If it still won't open, check that the mod is properly installed and there are no conflicting keybinds.
