Threshold Drift FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I enter the Backrooms?
Suffocate yourself inside a solid wall block, or have another player push you into one using a piston. Either method will clip you into the dimension and start your five-minute timer.
Can I play solo or do I have to squad up?
You can play solo—squads only form automatically when multiple players enter within sixteen blocks of each other. If you want to avoid grouping, enter from a different location or use the Endless Backrooms world type, which has no timer or squad system.
What's the difference between timed runs and Endless mode?
Timed runs have a five-minute timer and Overtime darkness, while Endless Backrooms is a standard survival world with no timer pressure. Endless mode also lets you place Liminal Respawn Units to set custom spawn points.
How do I find the
exit portal?
Use the
Temporal Compass item—hold it and it will point you toward the nearest
exit portal room. Without it, you'll need to explore the yellow corridors and search for the portal manually.

The Overtime phase begins and the dimension becomes pitch-black, making it much harder to navigate and survive. You can still find and reach an
exit portal, but you'll face total darkness and monsters while doing so.

No—dying or running out of time traps you in dangerous darkness and you lose your items. Only by walking through the
exit portal before the timer expires will you bring your loot safely back to the Overworld.

The Smiler hunts through dark hallways, the Gaping patrols and lays eggs that hatch into fast Hatchlings, the Chomper destroys your lights and breaks floors, and the Trader tries to pull you away from the exit. Each has different behavior, so adapt your strategy accordingly.
Can I use my own loot pools or data packs?
Yes—the mod supports custom loot pools and progression setups through KubeJS and data packs, so you can customize what items spawn in containers.
Does this mod work with other mods?
Yes—loot containers pull items from your full item registry and other installed mods, so compatibility is built in. However, performance may vary depending on how many mods you have; test your setup if you experience lag.
Should I bring lights into the Backrooms?
Lights help you navigate, but the Chomper specifically targets player-placed lights and will break them, plus it destroys the floor beneath your feet. Use lights strategically and be ready to move quickly if a Chomper appears.
