Subterranean Expansion Cave Update FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to create a new world for the mod to work?
Yes, the mod generates new cave structures during world creation, so you'll need to generate new chunks to see the biome-specific caves, stalagmites, stalactites, and frosted areas. Existing caves in previously explored chunks won't be affected.
How do I find frosted caves?
Frosted caves generate underground in cold biomes like snowy plains and ice spikes. Dig down in these surface biomes and you'll encounter caves filled with frost blocks, icicles, and blue ice formations instead of regular stone.
Can I turn off specific cave features I don't like?
Yes, the mod includes a config file where you can adjust or disable individual features like stalagmites, stalactites, frosted caves, or biome-specific cave generation to suit your preference.
Do the new stone formations drop anything when mined?
The stalagmites and stalactites are made from regular stone blocks (granite, deepslate, tuff, sandstone, etc.), so they drop the same materials as normal stone when mined with the appropriate tools.
Will this mod work with my resource pack?
Yes, the mod is designed to work with resource packs—the new stone shapes will use your custom textures automatically, so they'll match your chosen pack's visual style.
Why do desert caves look different now?
The mod changes desert caves to use sandstone near the surface and deep sandstone deeper down, replacing the normal stone you'd find in other biomes' caves to match the desert theme.
Are the massive underground glaciers dangerous to navigate?
The glaciers are made of ice and blue ice blocks, so they're slippery to walk on but not inherently dangerous—bring a pickaxe to mine through them and watch your footing on the slick surfaces.
Does this mod affect cave generation in the Nether or End?
No, the mod only modifies Overworld cave generation; the Nether and End remain unchanged.
Can I use these stone formations for building?
Absolutely—you can mine the stalagmites, stalactites, and other stone formations and use them as building blocks, or leave them in place as natural decorative features in your builds.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod adds extra terrain generation during world creation, which may slightly increase initial chunk loading time, but once chunks are generated, performance impact is minimal since the features are just regular blocks.
