Scythebound FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I craft my first scythe?
Scythes are crafted at a crafting table using materials corresponding to their tier—wooden scythes use wood and sticks, while higher tiers require stone, iron, diamond, or netherite. Check the crafting recipes in your crafting menu or a recipe viewer mod to see the exact layout for your desired tier.
Do I need seeds in my inventory to auto-replant crops?
Yes, you must have seeds in your inventory for the scythe to automatically replant after harvesting. If you run out of seeds, the harvested farmland will remain tilled but empty until you manually place seeds or collect more.
What's the difference between scythe tiers?
Higher-tier scythes cover larger harvesting areas and can have different sweep patterns, making them more efficient for big farms. Durability also increases with tier, so you'll need to repair or replace them less frequently.
How does the Crop Reaper enchantment work?
Crop Reaper increases the radius of your scythe's harvest area, allowing you to gather crops from a wider zone with each swing. You can apply it at an enchanting table or anvil like any other tool enchantment.
Can I use a scythe on crops other than wheat?
Scythes work on all mature crops that can be replanted with seeds or similar items, including carrots, potatoes, beetroot, and other farmable plants. Some crops may have different replanting mechanics depending on the mod's design.
What do machetes do differently from scythes?
Machetes are specialized for clearing leaves and dense brush in one strike, making them ideal for tree farming and foliage removal. They don't harvest crops or till farmland like scythes do.
Why aren't my crops auto-replanting after I harvest?
Check that you have seeds in your inventory and that the farmland is properly tilled before harvesting. If crops still won't replant, verify the crops were fully mature when you harvested them, as the mod may not replant immature crops.
Can I use a scythe as a regular hoe?
Yes, right-clicking on dirt or grass blocks with a scythe will till the ground like a standard hoe, so you can prepare farmland without switching tools.
Do scythes work on crops in other mods?
Scythes typically work on crops that follow standard Minecraft crop mechanics, but compatibility with modded crops depends on how those crops are coded. Test with your installed mods to see which crops are supported.
Will using a scythe cause lag on large farms?
Harvesting and replanting large areas at once can cause brief performance dips depending on your hardware, but the mod is optimized to handle most farm sizes. If you experience lag, try using lower-tier scythes or harvesting in smaller sections.
