Reptilian FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Where do I find reptiles in my world?
Reptiles spawn in warm biomes: Crocodiles in savannas and beaches, Alligators in swamps, Caimans in jungles, Gharials in rivers, Geckos in forests and jungles, Chameleons in jungles, Giant Tortoises in badlands and mushroom fields, and Komodo Dragons in warm biomes. Check these biomes first if you're not seeing any reptiles.
How do I get scutes from reptiles?
Use a brush on large reptiles like Crocodiles, Alligators, Caimans, Gharials, and Giant Tortoises to safely collect their scutes without harming them. This is safer than waiting for them to drop items naturally and lets you farm scutes repeatedly from the same animals.
Can I tame reptiles?
Only Geckos can be tamed—feed them beetles to tame them, and they'll sit on your head as a cosmetic pet. Other reptiles like Crocodiles and Komodo Dragons are wild and cannot be tamed, though they can be defeated for their drops.
What armor can I make from reptile scutes?
You can craft Thorny Chestplates from Crocodile scutes, Swift Boots from Alligator scutes for faster swimming, Swift Leggings from Caiman scutes for faster walking, and a Heavy Shield by combining Giant Tortoise scutes with netherite. Each piece gives different movement or defense benefits.
How do
Chameleon scales work?
Chameleons shed their scales over time, which you can collect and dye different colors. Use the dyed scales to change the color of placed wool or glass blocks in your builds.
What happens when a Komodo Dragon hits me?
Komodo Dragons apply a Bile effect when they deal damage, which poisons you if the damage is high enough. Defeat Komodo Dragons to collect bile balls, which you can use to brew new potions.
Do reptiles attack players?
Most reptiles are passive or neutral, but Komodo Dragons are aggressive and will attack you on sight. Crocodiles and Alligators may also be hostile depending on how you interact with them.
Can I keep Gharials as pets or trophies?
Gharials drop special scutes that are rare and can be kept as trophies, but they cannot be tamed like Geckos. They're meant to be collected and displayed rather than kept as active pets.
Do reptiles despawn?
Reptiles follow standard Minecraft mob despawning rules—they'll despawn if you travel far enough away or if the chunk is unloaded. Build an enclosure or use name tags if you want to keep specific reptiles in one location.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod adds eight new mobs to warm biomes, which may impact performance on older systems or if you have many other mods installed. Disable or reduce reptile spawn rates in the mod config if you experience lag.
