Primitive Start FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start a new world with this mod?
Spawn in and immediately hunt nearby animals to collect bones—don't try to chop trees first. You need bones to craft your first tools, so focus on finding cows, sheep, or other mobs and defeating them.
What animals drop bones and how many do I need?
Most passive mobs drop bones when killed. You'll need several bones to craft a full set of bone tools, so hunt multiple animals before you start crafting.
How do I get sticks without breaking trees?
Break leaf blocks by hand or with any tool—they drop sticks naturally. This is the intended way to gather sticks early game before you have a
bone axe.
bone axe.Can I use stone tools to mine iron?
No, stone tools cannot mine iron ore in this mod. You must progress to iron or better tools before you can collect iron.
Where do I find wood if I can't chop trees with my hands?
Look for naturally generated wooden structures like village huts or other plank-based buildings. You can break and collect wood planks from these structures without needing a tool.
What's the recipe for bone tools?
Bone tools are crafted using bones combined with sticks in a crafting table. Check your crafting recipes in-game for the exact layout, as it follows standard tool patterns.
Do I need a crafting table to make bone tools?
Yes, you need a crafting table. You can obtain wood planks from natural structures to build one before you can craft bone tools.
What happens after I make stone tools?
Once you have stone tools, you can mine iron ore and progress to iron tools normally. Stone tools work for all blocks except iron ore.
Does this mod work with other mods?
Primitive Start Mod should work with most other mods, but compatibility depends on whether other mods override early-game mechanics. Test it in your modpack to be sure.
Why can't I break wood with my
bone axe?
Bone tools are wood-tier, so they work like wooden tools. Make sure you're using a
bone axe on wood blocks—if it's not working, verify the tool is actually equipped and the block is wood.
