Passive Skill Trees Fabric FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get my first skill point?
Gather XP by playing normally (mining, fighting mobs, etc.) until you earn enough to unlock your first skill point. Once you have a point available, press O to open the skill tree menu and spend it on any node you can reach.
What's the difference between skill trees and skill nodes?
Skill trees are the separate progression paths you can choose from (like different character classes), while skill nodes are the individual upgrades within each tree that grant specific stat bonuses or abilities. You can unlock nodes from multiple trees at the same time.
Can I respec my skill points?
The mod doesn't have a built-in respec command by default, but you can use the editor to customize this behavior by modifying the skill tree data pack to suit your world's rules.
How do I use the skill tree editor?
Run the command `/skilltree editor` to open the customization menu. After making your changes, the mod generates a data pack folder that you need to copy into your world's datapacks folder to apply the modifications.
Do I need to connect nodes in a specific order?
Yes, you can only unlock nodes that are connected to nodes you've already unlocked—you can't skip ahead. Understanding the node connections helps you plan an efficient path through your chosen skill tree.
Can I mix abilities from different skill trees?
Yes, that's one of the core features—you can spend points across multiple different skill trees to create unique hybrid builds that combine different stat bonuses and abilities.
What happens if I edit my skill trees—do other players see my changes?
Your edited skill trees are stored in your world's data pack, so only players on that specific world or server will see your customizations. Each world can have its own unique skill tree layout.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod is generally lightweight since it only tracks XP spending and stat modifications, but opening the skill tree menu on very large custom trees might cause brief lag depending on your computer.
How do I know which nodes I can actually unlock next?
The skill tree menu highlights which nodes are reachable from your currently unlocked nodes—these are the only ones you can spend points on. Nodes that aren't connected to your current path will appear locked or unreachable.
