Paleo Bugs FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Where do I find fossils to start the mod?
Fossilized trunks generate naturally in the world and contain Suspicious Amber. Break these trunks to collect the amber, which you'll need to extract bug DNA from.
How do I extract dna from amber?
Place Suspicious Amber into a DNA Extractor block, and it will process the amber into a bug egg that you can place in the world to hatch.
What do baby bugs eat and how long do they take to grow?
Baby bugs need to be fed regularly—Megarachne eats raw meat while other bugs prefer fruits and sweets. They will grow into adults over time as long as you keep feeding them.
My bug won't let me ride it anymore
Adult bugs need to stay well-fed to remain rideable; if your mount refuses to let you ride, it's hungry and needs more of its favorite food.
How do I use the special abilities like flying and climbing?
Once you're riding an adult bug, press the R key to activate its special ability—different bugs can fly, jump high, or climb vertical walls.
Can I have multiple bugs at once?
Yes, you can hatch and raise multiple bugs, though you can only ride one at a time.
What types of bugs can I get in this mod?
The mod includes several prehistoric insects such as giant spiders and dragonflies, each with different abilities and food preferences.
Do I need to keep my bugs in a specific area or can they wander?
Baby bugs should be kept in a safe area while growing, but adult bugs can follow you around; however, they need regular feeding to stay rideable.
Is there a way to speed up bug growth?
Bugs grow as you feed them, so providing food more frequently will help them reach adulthood faster.
What happens if my bug dies?
If your bug dies, you'll need to find more Suspicious Amber, extract new DNA, and hatch another egg to get a replacement mount.
