How to Excavate Trees, Columns, and Non-Ore Blocks

Beyond ore veins

Although the mod is famous for ore veins, it can also break columns or connected groups of identical blocks. This makes it useful for felling trees, digging vertical shafts, or clearing patches of the same block.

Felling a tree

1. Make sure the shape or mode is set to follow connected identical blocks, or to a column if you want a straight trunk.

2. Hold the excavation key and break the bottom log.

3. The connected logs should break together, leaving leaves to decay naturally.

Digging a column

1. Switch the shape to column mode in the config.

2. Set the height or block limit so you do not dig further than intended.

3. Hold the key and break the top block of the column.

4. The blocks directly below should break in a vertical line.

Clearing identical blocks

  • This works best on blocks of the same type, such as sand, dirt, or stone.
  • Use a block limit to avoid clearing an entire desert or mountain by accident.
  • Test in a safe area before using it near builds.

Cautions

  • Column mode can dig straight down into lava or caves.
  • Always check what is below before excavating downward.
  • Adjust settings between tasks so you do not mine more than you meant to.
