Ore Excavation FAQ
20 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start vein mining?
Hold the excavation keybind (default is the grave/tilde key, but check your controls) while breaking a block, and the whole vein or column of matching blocks will break at once. If nothing happens, the keybind is probably unbound or conflicting with another mod.
Why isn't vein mining working?
The most common causes are an unbound or conflicting keybind, holding the wrong key, or the block not being in the mod's whitelist/blacklist config. Check your Controls menu first, then verify the block is allowed in the config.
Does vein mining work on trees and dirt?
How do I change the shape or size of excavation?
Open the mod's config file and adjust the shape mode (such as vein, column, or tunnel) and the radius or block limit. Some versions also let you cycle shapes in-game with a separate keybind.
Will vein mining break my tool faster?
Yes, every block broken counts as a use, so a large vein can burn through durability quickly. Lower the block limit in the config or use a higher-durability tool to avoid losing it mid-vein.
Can I vein mine without holding the key every time?
Some versions support a toggle mode instead of hold-to-activate, which you can set in the config or via a separate keybind. If your version only has hold mode, you'll need to keep the key pressed while mining.
Does Ore Excavation work on servers?
It works on servers only if the mod is installed server-side and the server config allows it. On vanilla or unmodded servers it won't function at all, since the block-breaking logic runs on the server.
Is Ore Excavation compatible with other mining mods?
It generally works alongside most mods, but can conflict with other vein miners or mods that intercept block breaking. If you see double-breaking or no effect, disable the overlapping mod or adjust load order.
Why does vein mining cause lag or crash on big veins?
Can I blacklist certain blocks from being excavated?
Yes, the config has block lists you can edit to exclude specific blocks or entire mods. Add the block ID to the blacklist so accidental breaks don't happen on valuable or
decorative blocks.
