Naturalist Biomes Java FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I find the new biomes?
The six biomes generate naturally in the Overworld during world generation, so they'll appear as you explore. Each biome has distinct visual markers—look for towering redwoods, colorful maple trees, snowy pine forests, arid grasslands with junipers, murky wetlands with willows, or rolling flower-covered hills to identify which biome you've entered.
Which wood type should I farm first?
Start with whichever biome is closest to your base, since all six wood sets have the same crafting recipes and building properties—the choice is purely aesthetic. Each wood family includes planks, stairs, slabs, and decorative blocks, so you can begin building immediately after harvesting.
How do branch logs work?
Branch logs are decorative wood pieces that connect naturally to tree trunks and other branch logs, allowing you to create realistic custom tree structures. Place them adjacent to trunks or other branches and they'll orient themselves to form flowing, organic connections.
Can I use the new blocks with vanilla wood?
Yes, the mod's planks, stairs, and slabs follow standard Minecraft crafting recipes, so they work with vanilla crafting tables and furnaces just like normal wood. The decorative blocks and special soils are purely additive and don't replace any vanilla blocks.
What are wishing wells and igloos for?
Wishing wells and igloos are decorative structures that spawn naturally across the terrain and serve as landmarks or shelter. They're purely cosmetic features that add character to the landscape, though you can harvest their blocks for building materials.
Do the new biomes affect mob spawning?
The mod adds new biomes but doesn't change vanilla mob spawning rules, so you'll encounter the same mobs as in standard Overworld biomes. Some biomes like Frozen Pine may feel different due to terrain and vegetation, but hostile mob spawning works normally.
How many new blocks are there to collect?
The mod adds approximately 180 new blocks including wood variants, decorative pieces, special soils, stone types, wild plants, and snow layers. This gives you plenty of building variety without overwhelming the creative palette.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod adds biomes and blocks but doesn't introduce complex mechanics or heavy processing, so performance impact is minimal on most systems. If you experience issues, try reducing your render distance or checking for mod conflicts with other world-generation mods.
Can I use these blocks in the Nether or End?
The mod's blocks can be placed anywhere you can normally place blocks, including the Nether and End, but the biomes themselves only generate in the Overworld. You'll need to harvest and transport the wood and blocks manually if you want to use them in other dimensions.
Do I need to start a new world to see the biomes?
Yes, the new biomes only generate in newly created worlds or unexplored chunks. Existing worlds won't have the biomes in already-generated areas, though they'll appear in new terrain you explore after installing the mod.
