Hiding Items and Resizing the Overlay
When the list is too full
A big modpack can put tens of thousands of entries in the item list, and a lot of them are things you will never craft — leftovers from a mod's internals, duplicate variants, parts of a system the pack does not use. JEI lets you take them out of the list without removing anything from the game.
Hide Ingredients Mode is the switch. Its config description is exact: "Hide and unhide ingredients by clicking them in the ingredient list overlay." Turn it on, click the things you do not want to see, turn it off again. The items still exist and still work; they just stop appearing in the list.
Three actions sit under the JEI (Edit Mode) category in Options, Controls:
Toggle Hide Ingredients Modeswitches the mode on and off.Hide Ingredientremoves the one item under the cursor.Hide Ingredient (With Wildcard)removes that item and its variants together, which is what you want for something that exists in sixteen colours.
Whatever you hide is recorded in Ingredient Blacklist in the config, so the list survives restarts and you can edit it by hand or clear it if you hide something by mistake.
Making the overlay fit your screen
Two options control how much room JEI takes:
Max Overlay Widthsets the maximum width of both the ingredient list and the bookmark list, measured in columns. Lower it if JEI is crowding the screen you are trying to use; raise it on a wide monitor to see more at once.Max Recipe GUI Heightcaps how tall a recipe screen may grow. Recipes with many pages of ingredients can otherwise run past the top and bottom of a short window.
Show Ingredient List Overlay turns the main list off entirely, and Show/Hide JEI Overlays under JEI (Overlays) does the same thing as a keypress — useful for a clean screenshot without changing any settings.
Tidying the tooltip
Mod Name Format controls how the mod's name is written on tooltips inside JEI screens, and the config notes that leaving it blank disables it. If you do not need to know which mod an item came from, clearing that setting gives you a shorter, quieter tooltip.
