Bookmarking Items and Recipes

Why bookmarks exist

A long build means looking up the same handful of recipes again and again. Bookmarks give those a permanent shelf: you pin an item or a recipe once, and it stays in a second list beside the normal item list until you remove it.

Add/Remove Bookmark is the only action you need to start. Point at an item, press it once to pin, press it again on the same item to unpin. It works on items in the item list, in your inventory, and inside an open recipe, so you can bookmark an intermediate part the moment you notice you will be making a lot of it.

Showing and hiding the shelf

The bookmark list is governed by its own option, Show Bookmark List Overlay, which decides whether the shelf appears next to open screens at all. For moment-to-moment use there is also Show/Hide Bookmarked Ingredients under the JEI (Overlays) category, which toggles it without touching the config.

Prepend New Bookmarks decides where a newly pinned entry lands. With it on, the newest bookmark goes to the front of the list, so what you just pinned is the first thing you see. With it off, new bookmarks are appended to the end and the order stays the order you pinned things in.

Bookmarking a recipe, not just an item

Bookmarking from inside a recipe screen pins that recipe, not only its output. That matters when an item has half a dozen ways to make it and you only care about one, and it is what makes the crafting actions useful:

  • Craft Bookmarked Recipe moves the ingredients for a bookmarked recipe into the crafting grid in front of you.
  • Craft Bookmarked Recipe (Many) does the same but fills the grid as far as your materials allow, rather than for a single craft.

Both only move items you already have. They are a convenience for laying out the grid, not a way to produce something from nothing.

Paging through a long shelf

The bookmark list pages the same way the item list does. Next Page and Previous Page under JEI (Overlays) move through whichever list the cursor is over, so the same two keys serve both columns.
