Take Authentic Retro-Style Screenshots with Koptiretro Shaders

The pixelation and dithering in Koptiretro Shaders make your world look like a frame from a vintage video game. With a little setup, your screenshots can look like box art or a classic title screen.

Setting up the shot

1. Open the pack's settings through Video Settings → Shader Packs → Shader Pack Settings.

2. Pick a color mode that fits the era you want:

  • 8-bit gives the most limited, heavily dithered look.
  • 15-bit gives a richer palette.

3. Apply the change and load your world.

4. Press F1 to hide the HUD. This removes the hotbar and crosshair, so only the pixelated scene remains.

5. Press F2 to save the screenshot to your screenshots folder.

Composition tips

  • Use skies. The pack stylizes skies too, and dithering is most visible in smooth gradients. A dawn or dusk sky in 8-bit mode shows off the effect well.
  • Include mobs and players. Entities also get the pixel-art treatment, which helps a scene feel like a game sprite screen.
  • Try strong silhouettes. Simple shapes, such as a castle against the sky or a lone tree, read clearly once pixelation is applied.
  • Compare modes. Take the same shot in 8-bit, 12-bit and 15-bit, then keep the one you like best.

The pack keeps the image clear even with the retro filter on. Details like block types stay recognizable, so your build still shows up in the shot.
