Switch Between 8-bit, 12-bit and 15-bit Color Modes
Koptiretro Shaders includes selectable 8-bit, 12-bit and 15-bit color depth settings. Each mode recreates a different style of classic display. Changing the mode is the biggest single adjustment you can make to how the pack looks.
Changing the color depth
1. Open Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs with Koptiretro Shaders selected.
2. Open the pack's settings screen. In most loaders this is a Shader Pack Settings button below the pack list.
3. Find the color depth option and choose 8-bit, 12-bit or 15-bit.
4. Apply the change and return to your world to compare.
Choosing a mode
In general, a lower bit depth means fewer available colors:
- 8-bit gives the strongest retro effect. Colors are limited, so expect more visible banding and dithering in skies, water and shading.
- 12-bit is a middle ground. It is clearly vintage but has smoother gradients than 8-bit.
- 15-bit has the widest palette of the three. It keeps the pixel-art style while looking the most natural.
A good way to compare the modes is to stand somewhere with a lot of color variation, such as a sunset over water or a forest edge. Then switch between modes and look at the sky gradient. The difference is easiest to see there.
You can change modes as often as you like, so try different ones for different worlds or builds.
