Keep Gameplay Readable or Turn the Retro Effect Off

Koptiretro Shaders is built to change the visual style while keeping the world clear and easy to see. Still, the strongest settings can feel busy during long sessions, combat or detailed building. Here is how to tone it down or switch it off.

Making the effect gentler

1. Go to Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs → Shader Pack Settings.

2. Switch the color depth to 15-bit. This mode has the widest color range of the three, so shading looks smoother and dithering is less noticeable.

3. Apply the change and test in a dark area, such as a cave or the night sky. This is where limited color modes can make contrast harder to judge.

4. If you prefer the stronger look for exploring, switch back to 8-bit or 12-bit when you are done with detailed work.

Turning it off temporarily

  • Open the Shader Packs menu and select the off or none option. Re-select Koptiretro Shaders whenever you want the retro look back. Your pack settings are kept between sessions.
  • Some loaders also have a quick shader toggle in their controls settings. Check your loader's keybinds if you want to flip between styles without opening menus.

If the pack won't load

Koptiretro Shaders needs a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine. If it is missing from the list, or nothing changes after you apply it:

  • Make sure the loader is running.
  • Check that the pack file is in the shader packs folder, not the resource packs folder.
