Koptiretro Shaders FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on Koptiretro Shaders?
Koptiretro is a shader pack, so it runs through a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine. Open Video Settings, go to the Shader Packs menu, select Koptiretro Shaders from the list and apply it. The pixelated, dithered look should appear across the whole screen right away.
Koptiretro doesn't show up in my shader list, what did I do wrong?
The pack has to sit in the shaderpacks folder of the game instance you are actually launching. It also only appears once a shader loader is installed. If the folder is right and it still doesn't show, reopen the Shader Packs menu or restart the game so the list refreshes.
How do I switch between 8-bit, 12-bit and 15-bit color?
With Koptiretro selected in the Shader Packs menu, open its shader options and look for the color depth setting. Choose 8-bit, 12-bit or 15-bit, then apply the change.
What's the difference between the 8-bit, 12-bit and 15-bit modes?
The number controls how many colors the screen can show. 8-bit gives the most limited, chunky palette with the strongest retro feel. 15-bit keeps the most color detail, and 12-bit sits in between.
What does the dithering actually do?
Dithering lays a fine pattern of pixels over the screen to fake smooth shading with a limited palette, the way older gaming hardware did. It is a screen-space effect, so it covers blocks, entities and the sky alike.
Does it change blocks or textures in my world?
No. Koptiretro is purely a visual effect applied to the screen, so your world, blocks and items are unchanged. Turning the shader off returns everything to normal.
Is it hard to see things with the pixel effect on?
The pack is designed to keep gameplay clear and readable while changing the style. If a mode feels too harsh, switch to a higher color depth like 15-bit for more color detail. You can also toggle shaders off when you need a clean view.
How do I quickly turn the retro effect off?
Go back to the Shader Packs menu and select the option to disable shaders, or pick a different pack. If you are using Iris, it also has a keybind that toggles shaders on and off in-game.
How do I take good retro-style screenshots with it?
Pick the color mode that fits the look you want; 8-bit gives the most classic console feel. Hide the HUD with F1, then press F2 to save the screenshot. The pixelation and dithering are captured exactly as you see them.
Will Koptiretro Shaders hurt my FPS or clash with other shaders?
Performance depends on your hardware and shader loader, so test it on your own setup. Only one shader pack can be active at a time, which means Koptiretro replaces any other pack you were using. Install it on your own client only; servers don't need it.
