Where to Find Each Fantasy Race: A Biome Checklist
Race-to-biome guide
The pack decides which fantasy race a villager becomes based on its biome. Use this list when exploring:
| Race | Look in |
|---|---|
| Humans | Plains |
| Dwarves | Taiga forests and cold, snowy biomes |
| Wood Elves | Green forests and dense jungles |
| Dark Elves | Dark oak forests and murky swamps |
| High Elves | Cherry groves and birch forests |
| Vanilla villagers | Desert and savanna |
Villagers keep their normal professions and trades no matter which race they appear as.
Tips for tracking them down
1. Start with natural villages. In vanilla, villages commonly generate in plains, taiga and snowy biomes. That makes Humans and Dwarves the easiest races to find early.
2. Watch for biome edges. A village near a border can sit close to a different biome. Note where you met each villager.
3. Expect some races to take effort. Vanilla rarely or never generates villages in jungles, swamps, dark oak forests, cherry groves or birch forests. To meet Wood, Dark or High Elves, you may need to bring villagers into those biomes yourself. See the settlement-building guide.
4. Use F3 to confirm the biome. The debug screen shows the biome you are standing in. This helps you match what you see to the table above.
5. Don't chase desert or savanna villages for fantasy races. Those villagers stay vanilla.
