Trading With Fantasy Villagers: What Changes and What Doesn't

What stays exactly the same

This pack only changes how villagers look. Trading mechanics are preserved, so everything you already know still applies:

  • Professions come from workstations. Place a job site block near an unemployed villager to give it a job.
  • Trades unlock and level up normally as you keep trading with a villager.
  • Restocking, beds, breeding and gossip/reputation work as in vanilla.
  • Trading halls and villager breeders you've built before keep working. The villagers inside just look different.

An elf librarian or a dwarf toolsmith offers the same kind of deals as a vanilla one.

Telling villagers apart

Custom models can make familiar villagers harder to read at a glance. A few habits help:

1. Open the trade screen. It always shows the villager's profession and level. This is the most reliable way to confirm a job.

2. Label workstations. Put signs or item frames by each job site so you know who works where.

3. Name key villagers with a name tag, such as your best librarian. This makes them easy to spot among similar-looking villagers.

4. Keep races organized. Race depends on biome, so a trading hall in one biome will mostly look uniform. Villagers gathered from several biomes may look mixed.

Not seeing the custom look?

If traders still look vanilla, first check whether they come from a desert or savanna. Villagers from those biomes keep the vanilla design.
