Malkazar’s Fantasy Villager Pack Resource Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
I enabled the pack but my villagers still look vanilla. What's wrong?
The custom models and textures only display with OptiFine or with both Entity Texture Features and Entity Model Features, so check that one of those setups is installed and running. Make sure the pack is moved to the active side of the Resource Packs menu. If villagers in plains, forests or taiga still look vanilla, another pack may be overriding it.
Do I need OptiFine AND Entity Texture Features/Entity Model Features?
No, you need one route, not both. Use OptiFine on its own, or use Entity Texture Features together with Entity Model Features. On the second route, install both mods, because the pack relies on custom models as well as textures.
Why do desert and savanna villagers look normal?
That's intended. Classic vanilla villagers still spawn in desert and savanna biomes, so those towns don't get a fantasy race.
Which biome do I go to for each race?
Humans are in plains. Dwarves are in taiga and cold snowy biomes, and Wood Elves are in green forests and jungles. Dark Elves are in dark oak forests and swamps, and High Elves are in cherry groves and birch forests.
Does this change villager trades or professions?
No. Vanilla trading mechanics and trading roles are preserved, and only the villagers' appearance changes. Workstations, restocking and trade unlocking all work the same way they always do.
Can I get High Elves or Dark Elves in my own base?
Each race is tied to biome, so build or breed your settlement inside the matching biome. For High Elves that's a birch forest or cherry grove, and for Dark Elves it's a dark oak forest or swamp. Test with a couple of villagers first to confirm they show the race you want before building the whole town.
Will a villager change race if I move it to a different biome?
Appearance is linked to biome, so relocated villagers may not behave the way you expect. Move a single villager into the target biome and check how it looks before relocating a whole village.
Does this work on a multiplayer server?
Yes, because it's a resource pack, so the visuals are handled on your own game client. Each player needs the pack plus OptiFine or Entity Texture Features and Entity Model Features to see the fantasy villagers. Players without that setup just see normal villagers, and trading works the same for everyone.
Can I use this with other villager texture packs?
Two packs that both replace villager models or textures will conflict. Whichever pack sits higher in the Resource Packs list wins. Put this pack above the other one, or remove the other one, if you want the fantasy races.
Will custom villager models hurt my FPS?
Custom entity models add some rendering work. The effect is usually small, but you may notice it in large, crowded villages or villager trading halls. If you get stutters there, lower your entity render distance or cut down how many villagers are packed into one area.
