Monitoring Despawn Events
If items seem to vanish faster than expected, use the timer overlay to diagnose the problem:
1. Drop a test item and watch its timer carefully
2. Note the exact time remaining when the item disappears
3. If it vanishes at zero seconds, despawn is working normally
4. If it vanishes early, another factor is at play
Common Causes of Early Disappearance
- Mob pickup: Mobs may collect dropped items before they despawn. The timer won't account for this
- Player collection: You or another player may have picked up the item without noticing
- World unloading: If you travel far from dropped items, the chunk unloads and items may be removed
- Mod conflicts: Other mods affecting item behavior may interfere with standard despawn timing
Verifying Normal Behavior
In a controlled test area, drop an item, stay nearby watching the timer, and confirm it reaches zero before disappearing. This establishes that the mod and vanilla despawn mechanics are functioning correctly.
