How to Craft and Use the Grappling Hook

Crafting the Base Hook

Start with the Grappling Hook. It is made through a shapeless crafting recipe, so the arrangement of ingredients in the grid does not matter. Once crafted, hold it and aim at a distant block, then fire to pull yourself toward the anchor point.

If you want more reach or control, upgrade the base hook rather than crafting a separate tool. The Base Grappling Hook Upgrade is the foundation for most other upgrades. Apply upgrades to your existing Grappling Hook to change how it behaves instead of carrying multiple hooks.

Expanding What the Hook Can Do

Several upgrades change the hook's function:

• Rope Grappling Hook Upgrade — extends or alters rope behavior.
• Hook Thrower Grappling Hook Upgrade — changes how the hook is launched.
• Hook Magnet Grappling Hook Upgrade — adds magnetic attraction to hooks.
• Swing Grappling Hook Upgrade — enables swinging motion.
• Limits Grappling Hook Upgrade — adjusts the hook's limits.
• Forcefield Grappling Hook Upgrade — ties into forcefield behavior.
• Motor Grappling Hook Upgrade — adds motorized pull.
• Rocket Grappling Hook Upgrade — adds rocket propulsion.
• Ender Staff Grappling Hook Upgrade — links the hook to the Ender Staff.

Each upgrade is applied to the Grappling Hook. Combine them to tailor the hook to how you move: swinging, magnet-pulling, or rocket-boosting. The Grappling Hook Modifier block lets you manage these upgrades at a station rather than in your inventory.
