Why Use Diagonal Corners

A diagonal corner cuts the wasted square footage of a right-angle corner and gives pens, pastures, and garden plots a softer, more natural outline. Because the hitbox matches the diagonal fence shape, animals and players still collide with the fence correctly — you are not creating a gap they can walk through.

Building a Diagonal Corner

1. Lay out your straight fence runs first, leaving one corner post unplaced.

2. At the corner, place a post one block diagonally inward from where a normal corner post would go.

3. Leave the block in the inner corner empty so the two runs connect diagonally.

4. Walk the perimeter and check each joint. Any spot where fences meet at 90 degrees means a block is occupying the corner — remove it to force the diagonal.

Practical Tips

  • Diagonal corners work best on flat ground. On slopes, place the diagonal post at the lower level and let the fence step up naturally.
  • For large enclosures, alternate diagonal and right-angle corners to follow terrain.
  • Test with a lead or by walking the fence line: if you can pass through, a corner block is blocking the diagonal connection.
  • Gates still function normally; place them in a straight run rather than on a diagonal joint.
