Setting Up Your Halo File
Custom halos are defined in JSON files within your data pack or resource pack. Create a new file in the data/namespace/halos/ folder with a descriptive name (for example, my_custom_halo.json).
Defining Halo Layers
Each halo consists of one or more layers. In your JSON file, specify:
- Texture: The resource location of your halo texture (e.g.,
modname:textures/halo/my_texture.png) - Scale: The size multiplier for that layer
- Position: X, Y, Z offsets from the entity's head
- Rotation speed: How fast the layer spins (use sine, cosine, or linear functions)
- Glow: Whether the layer emits light
- Orientation mode: Choose between head-following, free-floating, or hybrid synced angles
Testing Your Design
Once saved, reload your data packs or resource packs. Use /halo list to confirm your halo appears in the loaded definitions. Apply it with /halo show @s your_halo_name to see it in action. Adjust scale, offset, and animation values until the effect matches your vision.
